Calcium Blood Test
What Is Serum Calcium?
Calcium effects virtually every cell in the body. The best source of calcium is from raw milk (not pasteurized milk which is high in phosphorus and causes calcium loss) and green lefy vegetables. Calcium is needed for optimum health of all our of body’s systems, however, high calcium levels in the blood can cause major damage. Because of this, our body has hormones such as parathyroid hormone (PTH), calcitonin, and vitamin D that keep the calcium levels in our blood extremely stable.
When is the Calcium Blood Test Ordered and Why Order Myself?
Calcium levels in the blood are typically ordering in test panels, however, it may be ordered individually when monitoring low or high levels of calcium in the blood. Your doctor may want to order other tests such as PTH, active Vitamin D to rule out potential parathyroid adenomas.
You can save time and money by getting a list of tests your doctor wants to order then ordering your lab tests online.
